Why hello there....

Well, here goes nothin'.

A blog, you say? Isn't that kind of self-indulgent? Who wants to hear what I have to say and why would I think it was important?

I guess I am doing this as more of a way to put what I am doing into writing, to be held accountable...I saw a show tonight, Biloxi Blues, and the Neil Simon character realizes that what he puts into writing somehow becomes truth in peoples' eyes, even if it is just his personal musings and ideas. And that gives him, as a writer, great responsibility. So along those lines I'm hoping that what I put into writing becomes truth and that it also holds me responsible. That by keeping a record and putting it "out there" I will be held to it in some way..even if no one is out there reading it, that I know of....there could be.

So, my mission, ostensibly, is this: lose twenty pounds in thirteen weeks. I plan to do this the old fashioned way, good old diet and exercise. Simply watch what I eat and remain consistently active. I will use this forum to record my progress and will strive to be open and honest about my successes and failures. Again, not that this is in and of itself, that interesting. Just a way for me to keep track.

I chose thirteen weeks because my fiancee left for US Marine Corps boot camp yesterday and he will be there for thirteen weeks. At the end of this insanely trying and physically testing period, he will be a Marine and I will go to San Diego to see him graduate. And I want to get in the best shape of my life and amaze him so that the first time he sees me after three months he won't even recognize me! Because I know he will be likewise very very changed. I have been wanting to do this for a long time and this is the best motivation I can think of, plus I will have a lot of extra time on my hands, and I want to use this time apart to really better myself in a few different areas (more on that later).
